Overview

Rockerbox offers a direct API integration with Outbrain to automatically ingest your advertising spend data.

Prerequisites

Before setting up the integration, you’ll need:
  • An active Outbrain advertiser account
  • API access for your Outbrain account
  • Your Outbrain Marketer ID

Requesting API Access

If you don’t have API access for your Outbrain account:
  1. Apply for API access through Outbrain’s partner API form
  2. When filling out the form, use the following answers:
    • Do you operate your own proprietary technology? No
    • Does your technology provide a self-serve interface? No
    • Do you offer a SaaS or managed service product? Other
    • Description for ‘Other’: We use the Rockerbox Attribution Platform and need API credentials
    • Anticipated API calls per day: Fewer than 10
    • Additional information: Rockerbox already has API spend ingestion for other Outbrain clients

URL Parameters

Parameter Configuration

  • Add Rockerbox tracking parameters to your campaign URLs
  • Parameters use macros that are dynamically filled by Outbrain
  • Follow Outbrain’s UTM tracking documentation

Available Dynamic Macros

Outbrain supports these dynamic macros:
  • {campaign_id} - Campaign ID
  • {campaign_name} - Campaign Name
  • {section_id} - Section ID
  • {publisher_id} - Publisher ID
  • {ad_id} - Ad ID
  • {promotion_id} - Promotion ID

Implementation Steps

  1. Add parameters to all active campaigns
  2. Use Outbrain’s dynamic macros
  3. Test parameter population
  4. Verify tracking implementation

Finding Your Marketer ID

Your Marketer ID is required for authentication in Rockerbox. To find it:
  1. Log in to my.outbrain.com
  2. Look at the URL in your dashboard
  3. Your Marketer ID is the string of zeros in the URL that starts with “00”, for example:
https://my.outbrain.com/amplify/site/marketers/0000000000000000000000000000000000/reports/campaigns

Setting Up the Integration

  1. Go to the Advertising Platforms page in your Rockerbox account
  2. Find and select Outbrain from the list of available platforms
  3. Click “Connect” to start the authentication process
  4. Enter your Marketer ID when prompted
  5. Complete the authentication process

Verification

After setting up the integration:
  1. Rockerbox will begin pulling your Outbrain spend data automatically
  2. The data will be available in your Rockerbox reporting within 24-48 hours
  3. You can verify the connection status on the Advertising Platforms page
  4. Check that URL parameters are properly configured on all campaigns

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues:
  • Ensure your API access is properly configured in Outbrain
  • Verify that your Marketer ID is correct
  • Check that your Outbrain account has active campaigns with spend
  • Confirm URL parameters are properly formatted
  • Contact Rockerbox support if you need additional assistance
