Overview

Rockerbox offers a comprehensive integration with Pinterest that includes both spend data ingestion and advanced tracking capabilities.

Prerequisites

Before setting up the integration, you’ll need:
  • An active Pinterest advertiser account
  • Access to your Pinterest Ads Manager
  • Pinterest tag implemented on your website

Setup Instructions

  1. Go to the Advertising Platforms page in your Rockerbox account
  2. Find and select Pinterest from the list of available platforms
  3. Click “Connect” to start the authentication process
  4. Complete the authentication process to allow Rockerbox to ingest your daily spend data

URL Parameters

Standard (Non-Shopping) Ads

  1. Add Rockerbox tracking parameters to your ad URLs
  2. Parameters must be set on ads, not on the pins you’re promoting
  3. Note that editing destination URLs will cause ads to temporarily move to ‘pending’ status

Shopping Ads

For Pinterest Shopping Ads (catalog feed-based), you have two implementation options:
  1. Ad_Link Column Method:
    • Add an ad_link column to your catalog data source
    • Append Rockerbox tracking parameters to the URL in this column
    • Must include the full URL with tracking (not just parameters)
    • URL must begin with http:// or https://
  2. Product Group-Level Method:
    • Implement tracking parameters at the Product Group level
    • Add parameters in the ‘URL parameters (optional)’ section
    • Include {unescaped|purl} at the beginning of the parameters

Available Dynamic Parameters

Pinterest supports these dynamic parameters:
  • {campaign_id} - Campaign ID
  • {campaign_name} - Campaign Name
  • {adgroup_id} - Ad Group ID
  • {creative_id} - Creative ID
  • {pin_id} - Pin ID

View-Based Tracking

Rockerbox has a special partnership with Pinterest that enables view-through and engagement tracking:
  1. Pinterest sends Rockerbox a daily, log-level feed of site visitors who:
    • Viewed a Pinterest ad
    • Engaged with a Pinterest ad
    • Clicked on a Pinterest ad in the past 60 days
  2. This data is used to create deterministic marketing touchpoints
  3. A new conversion segment called “[Featured Conversion] - Pinterest” will be created
  4. This segment includes all attributed conversions across channels including Pinterest views

Pinterest Tag Verification

To verify your Pinterest tag implementation:
  1. Open your browser and navigate to your homepage
  2. Disable any ad blockers
  3. Open the browser console (Inspector > Console)
  4. Type window.pintrk.tagId
  5. If it returns a number, the tag is firing correctly
  6. If not, you need to work with Pinterest to implement the tag

Verification

After setting up the integration:
  1. Rockerbox will begin pulling your Pinterest spend data automatically
  2. The data will be available in your Rockerbox reporting within 24-48 hours
  3. View-based data will start appearing one full day after activation
  4. Verify that tracking is properly applied to all your ads

Troubleshooting

Common issues to check:
  • Unmapped Events: These can occur due to “repins” of historical ads where spend data is no longer available
  • URL Parameters: Ensure they’re applied to ads, not pins
  • Shopping Ads: Verify catalog feed requirements are met
  • View Tracking: Confirm Pinterest tag is properly implemented
